Hello! We are Janna Maria Vallee and Katie Cadwalader Earle. We are excited about the evocative nature of collaboration, so we have come together to be a positive presence each other's art practice. Be it in critiquing, helping document or assisting in processes, we want to actively support one another in our respective artistic feats.
Based out of New York City we both desire to work with the people and materials that inhabit the spaces around us to create relationships from which our artistic endeavors can develop and take form. Our hope is to push and challenge our creative processes in compelling and innovative ways by working in tandem with the inherent vibrancy of our environment. It is our suspicion that some thoughtful objects and events will come of this and we hope that you will be interested in them too.
Our passion lies in tradition. We are continually enamored by the rich history of textiles and love how it offers complex contexts to our processes and ideas. Since we are both graduates of the Fibres and Materials Practice program at Concordia University in Montréal Québec Canada, we have lots to share - and sharing our knowledge of textiles is of most importance to us.
Not only do we make art together, we offer consulting, sampling and educational workshops in both New York City and Vancouver Canada. We'd love it if you would follow us on our journey! We're on Instagram and Facebook and will be posting on this blog on a regular basis. Coming up we have some posts about our first collaboration, where we each took ten yards of silk charmeuse and dyed and printed on them in to our respective summer destinations. Revealing the finished silks to each other at the end of the summer was a dream. In the above photo we are holding two yards that Janna dyed using natural dyes with a stenciling technique.
Janna and Katie.
